Twenty-five volunteers comprising of the Board of Trustees, Officers, Advisers and Staff of Pollution Control Association of the Philippines Inc. Region 4A (PCAPI Calabarzon) initiated a mangrove planting activity along the stretch of Calatagan Mangrove Forest Conservation Park in Calatagan, Batangas on April 30, 2018.
The tree-planting activity was done as part of the PCAPI Calabarzon’s annual team building held near the area. Through this deed, PCAPI Calabarzon was able to demonstrate its genuine concern for the environment and helped diminish the unfavorable effects of climate change.
Mangrove planting and conservation are essential to the environment as mangroves protect shorelines from erosion, maintain water quality, and filter water pollutants, among its many other benefits.
Locally known as “Ang Pulo”, Calatagan Mangrove Conservation Forest Park is home to about 10 species of mangroves and a wide variety of shellfish and crustaceans and other marine life. It also plays host to abundant species of birds, many of which nest and stay in the area to feed in the vicinity.
Around 100 seedlings were successfully planted along the area, which was made possible by the guidance and supervision of the locals and barangay councilors under Hon. Danilo Quidem, Brgy. Chairman of Calatagan Mangrove Forest Conservation Park.
